Wheels of fortune might turn again

ITANAGAR, Oct 3: While none of the parties involved are willing to divulge any details, highly placed sources has indicated that Pema Khandu led People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) government will join the BJP soon.

PPA is part of the North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), a BJP-led front to derail Congress in the region.

The government spokesperson Pasang D Sona said that there is no move of joining BJP as of now. "There is no talk as yet either at the party or the government level on joining BJP".

The Chief Minister Pema Khandu is expected to meet the Prime Minister soon in New Delhi but Sona said that the meeting is purely for developmental issues.

BJP Chief in the state Tapir Gao said that there is no talk as yet by the BJP or the PPA for formal joining.

He said that both the parties are part of NEDA but if anybody wants to join BJP, they are more than welcome.

PPA chairman Kamen Ringu said that rumours should not be taken seriously while stating that PPA is committed to development of the state and region.

Pema Khandu led govt had switched from Congress to PPA on Sept 16 with 43 MLAs which left former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki alone in the party.

Following the Supreme Court ruling on July 13 last, the Congress government led by Nabam Tuki was reinstated in the state forcing Kalikho Pul out of power. Subsequently, Nabam Tuki resigned to pave way for Pema Khandu to take over as the Congress Chief Minister instead of Pul as the MLAs felt that he was being too autocratic. Pul, who was immensely popular with the people of the state for his populist policies, ultimately took his own life on August 9 leaving behind 60 paged note. There is no update yet on the content of the notes as well as the progress of the investigation.

On the day of his joining PPA on Sept 16, Chief Minister Pema Khandu had said that state was forced to join PPA, part of the NDA as it was struggling with finances. According to Chief Minister, his govt had inherited a cumulative deficit of about Rs 3,700 crore out of which liabilities of about Rs 1,200 crore had been cleared out of the resources meant for 2016-17.

Bereaved father of officer seeks impartial investigation

ITANAGAR, Oct 3: The father of Arunachal Pradesh Police officer, SI Hano Chatung has said that they are looking forward for thorough and impartial investigation by SIT or high level inquiry as per order passed by the Chief Minister who was then also holding the Home department.

The officer was found dead under mysterious circumstances while he was on the way to Doimukh on duty at 6 km in between Itanagar- Naharlagun on Sept 14.

Bamin Hinda, the father of later officer requested that the State Govt thoroughly investigate the case from all angle including his previous stint at Balijan as OC, PS during Assam - Arunachal Boundary Dispute at Tarasso & Radasso.

My son was a very sincere, dedicated and courageous police officer who would not commit any act which is detrimental to the state government and family as well. The police investigation to the cause of death of my son is still under way and the cause of death will certainly be known sooner or later, said the bereaved father.

For last one year, the family went through many rough phases and have seen the desperate and helpless condition of my son, the father said.

The officer left behind his wife, two minor children, his parent in a distressful state. While appealing for early completion of fair and impartial investigation into the unnatural and mysterious death, Bamin Hinda said that the family members are ever ready to co-operate with the investigation team.

The aggrieved father further expressed his displeasure at circulations of pictures of his son after the accident in the social media. "Many people have given their self created comments regarding the incidence. We as a family are truly hurt by such act and would like to request users of facebook and whatsapp to abstain from any such insensible comments without knowing the actual facts till the completion of investigation".

Instead they should come forward for delivery of justice to the bereaved family members and for the peace of his departed soul, the father added.

Further, the family members of late SI Chatung has appealed to the State Govt for adequate compensation to his wife and children.

They sought a job on compassionate ground for the wife in accordance with prevailing policies and provision under the Govt Rule as applied to other in such cases.

The family has thanked the Police dept, District administration and SP Ziro for their help in ensuring that the road blockades were cleared. It also thanked All Lower Subansiri Students Union for allowing the family to carry the body back to Ziro by partial withdrawal of their extensive 36 hrs District Bandh call

The family has also thanked the Confederation of Service Association of Arunachal Pradesh, Tanw Supung Dukung( TSD) the Apex Body Apatani, and Apatani Youth Association ( AY A) for their timely help.

HM sends strong warning on indiscipline among police, two suspended

ITANAGAR, Oct 03: Home Minister Kumar Waii asked every police personnel in the state to perform their assigned duties with utmost sincerity, discipline and punctuality, saying that any sort of indiscipline and insincerity will not be tolerated.

Taking strong note of the insincerity in performing duties by police personnel on the night of September 30 at Yupia Tri-Junction and 'O' Point Tinali, Waii issued a directive to City SP to suspend Mohan Hazarika and Ct. J Yukar, the night duty in-charges of the two mentioned point with immediate effect.

At the same time, Waii said, performer will be rewarded suitably.

Accordingly, Ct.Tesring Tashi of IRBn, who was leading the Naka at Kamkar Nallah (Model Village and Ct. Hura Simon, who was leading the Naka at Ganga BOP were awarded with cash reward.

"If the police itself fail to maintain discipline, how can we show example to the citizen," Waii said.

"If any police personnel are found guilty of not performing duty with sincerity in future, stringent disciplinary actions will be initiated against them irrespective of their ranks. Responsibilities need to be fixed at all level," the Home Minister said, adding that he will not be a silent spectator.

Centre assures Arunachal of all out support to tap power potential

NEW DELHI, Oct 3: Union Minister of State for Power (Independent) Piyush Goyal has assured all out support to Arunachal Pradesh to make power sector of the state vibrant. This assurance came when Chief Minister Pema Khandu called on the Union Minister Goyal in New Delhi on Monday.

While assuring all possible support from his Ministry, the Union Minister asked the state government to initiate result oriented approach to ensure that huge power potential in Arunachal Pradesh sees a major boost in the days to come. Goyal further informed that the Central Government is committed to electrify every household by 2018 while the villages will be illuminated by March 2017.

Pema had earlier proposed for constitution of a high level group of ministers to resolve issues of Hydro power in the state, so that the projects which at present have been facing bottlenecks on various grounds can be brought back on track.

Chief Minister further apprised Goyal about the missing links in the 132 KV transmission grid project funded by Govt of India which does not have Khup-Tawang, Rupai-Namsai, Bomdila-Kalaktang and Likabali-Basar zones under the project.

He requested the Union Minister to incorporate the left out/ missing links under the project. Khandu also pitched for consideration of a proposal for 89 MW solar park at Tezu.

Apart from power issues, CM requested the Union Ministry to consider for reopening of Namchik-Namphuk Coal field which had been a major source of revenue generation for the state. "The economic growth and local subsistence avenues have also been grossly affected by the closure of the project. Therefore, the Government of India is requested to examine the matter of reopening the project at the earliest" CM appealed while giving the fact that the state government has machinery in place to curb illegal mining.

CM was accompanied by Chief Secretary, Commissioner Power, high ranking state Government officials during the meeting.

SBM receives overwhelming response

ITANAGAR, Oct 03: Swachh Bharat Mission, an ambitious programme launched by Government of India, received overwhelming response in Arunachal Pradesh.

In order to promote the campaign and create awareness about the Swachh Bharat Mission, various awareness camps, rallies and cleanliness drives were organized across the state on October 2 commemorating the 147th birth anniversary of Father of the National Mahatma Gandhi.

As a part of the SBM, Tirap district administration conducted cleanliness drive in all office premises, schools, hospitals, markets, residential areas and roadsides under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Ravi Jha on October 2 coinciding with the Gandhi Jayanti.

Cleanliness drives were also carried out at Deomali, Lazu, Dadam and all other circles and schools of the district.

40 dustbins and hand gloves were distributed to various colonies, including Khonsa Bazar Welfare Committee and Assam Rifles colony by the District Administration.

The PHE & WS Division, Longding district organized Swachhata Rally from September 25 to October 2 at various places of Longding district.

A social service was conducted at the division office which was followed by Cleanliness Rally flagged off by Executive Engineer T. Taki on September 29.

Speaking on the occasion, District Consultant (HRD) ChonaiWangpan highlighted the importance of Cleanliness and Government of India’s effort to achieve the ODF status to all the Villages of India through Swachh Bharat Mission.

Consultant (M & E) Bogi Haider urged panchayat leaders and beneficiaries to cooperate with the Department to achieve ODF status and earn NGP award for the Gram Panchayat.

Demonstration on water testing using FTK was conducted by Lab Asistant Pasak Ratan. The Programme concluded with distribution of FTK to village representatives.

At Anini, a special Gram Sabha (meeting) was organized among the 21 Gram Panchayats of Dibang Valley district on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti to launch Clean India Mission and observe Swachta Pakhwada from October 1 to 15.

As part of the Gandhi Jayanti celebration a social service was organized to clean the Anini Township.

Special Gram Sabha was also organized by District Water and Sanitation Committee, PHE & WS division, Yupa at Karsingsa.

The PRI leaders adopted several resolutions on water supply, sanitation and various other health related and other issues and submitted the same to CE (WZ) and Sanitation.

Swachhta pledge was administered to all the participants by the Commissioner, PHE&WS.

Mass social services were conducted in Daporijo and Dumporijo covering schools, market places, govt. office premises, villages and colonies under the guidance of Deputy Director of UD & Housing Department Teri Tania.

Social service was participated by people from all walks of life, including PRI leaders, general public, students, business community and town dwellers.

At Yingkiong, a cleanliness drive was conducted by personnel of 761 BRTF of Boarder Rods Organisation on October 2.

A group of 100 volunteers from GREF and Army carried out cleaning of 1 km length of road from Helipad to Lower Market. Apart from physically cleaning the road side drains, removing littered plastic wrappers other solid wastes, the volunteers also carried out a door to door canvassing to highlight importance of cleanliness and how it only require a changes on mindset to stay clean & healthy.

Addressing volunteers at the beginning of the Campaign, SK Pradhan, Commander 761 BRTF urged all to implement the national policy on “Swachchta” and refrain from littering plastic places with wrappers etc and also not to spit on road as it leads to contamination and spreading of diseases.

He hoped that such cleanliness drives would convey the message to all and bring about a paradigm shift in the way we look at issues relating to cleanliness, making such efforts, drives & awareness a means towards ending poverty.

Social service under SBM were also organized by the respective local administration of Hayuliang, Kakoi, Goiliang Circle, Anjaw, at Doimukh town by members of Yupia Youth Welfare Association, KVK Anjaw, STS, Daporijo.

The student members of Ebizcom Pvt. Ltd observed Gandhi Jayanti by organizing a blood donation camp at RK Mission Hospital Itanagar.

An essay competition on “Mahatma Gandhi, was conducted at Govt. Upper Primary School, AdiNingroo, under Piyong Circle of Namsai district on October 1 as part of Gandhi Jayanti celebration.

Altogether 19 students of Class VII and Class VIII participated in the competition. The prizes to winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd) were distributed on the day of Gandhi jayanti on Sunday.

The students of Guardian Angel School, Itanagar conducted social service in the streets of Itanagar under SBM to mark the Gandhi Jayanti.

Gandhi Jyanti celebrated as National Day of Prayer in Miao

MIAO, Oct 03: Christians in East Arunachal Pradesh celebrated Gandhi Jyanti with a difference this year. They conducted a National Day of Prayer together with all church bodies in India and prayed for peace and communal harmony in our country.

Peace is the need of the hour, said Rev. Wanglong Simai, General Secretary of Tangsa Baptist Church Association (TBCA).

“I am happy to be here praying for peace on the birthday of the Father of our Nation,” he added.

Bishop George of Miao Diocese, who envisioned this programme to participate in the United Christian Prayer for India (UCPI) an all Churches’ association to bring about social changes through prayers, blessed the event and requested the gathered congregation to pray for peace earnestly. Peace is what the world needs now more than ever, he said.

Thiksal Morang, former District Director of School Education for Changlang in Arunachal Pradesh, too was present for the prayer event and prayed for peace.

Lian Paite, Principal of Living Hope School, Nongtham village, representing the Baptist Churches together with Mr. Simai, expressed joy at being part of the this initiative of praying together for peace in India.

Fr. Felix, representing the Catholic Church from Miao Diocese, too expressed joy at praying for peace together with other Christian communities on the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, who taught the world to win battles not by gun and war but by peace and non-violence. “I am sure God would be very pleased to look at us today. He would be so happy to look at us all his children praying as one family”, he said.

People gathered for the prayer for peace event too expressed their happiness at being part of a significant event for peace on Gandhi Jyanti.

With prayers and peace initiatives such as this, one hopes that there would be visible signs of peace and respect for one another in India and across the world.

Ngandam take stock of education scenario

NAMSAI, Oct 3: Education and Libraries Minister Honchun Ngandam on Monday visited various government schools in Namsai district to take stock of the education scenario.

Accompanied by local MLA and Parliamentary Secretary Chau Zingnu Namchoom and a high level team of officials from education department, Ngadam visited Government Higher Secondary Schools Lekang, Namsai, Lathao and Chowkham. Ngadam stressed on teacher-student relationships for better teaching and learning. He advised the students to respect their teachers and elders.

Parliamentary Secretary Namchoom apprised the Minister that though many things have been done to improve the education scenario yet a lot many are yet to be done for which he sought necessary help from the minister.

Secretary Education Bidol Tayeng, Director Elementary Education T. Gao, State Project Director Opak Gao, PD (DRDA), Namsai B.Talukdar accompanied the minister.

On Sunday, the minister accompanied by Tezu-Sunpura MLA Mohesh Chai attended a meeting at Amik Ringya Hall which was attended by the head of all departments and teachers of Tezu-Sunpura block.

Addressing the meeting, Ngandam urged the teachers to be punctual and to discharge duties with utmost sincerity and dedication.

Urging the teachers to become role model for others to follow, the Education Minister advised them to refrain from using drug, consuming alcohol and smoking.

He also advocated for early review of the no detention policy introduced in schools at elementary level.

Minister also shared an idea of providing the children with practical knowledge with the help of Govt. Departments. He requested Lohit Deputy Commissioner to initiate children's interaction programme with the help of govt. officials.

MLA Chai emphasized on requirement of one more Higher Secondary school in Tezu town as the existing Government Higher Secondary school, Tezu is over crowded with 3 to 4 sections in each class at senior secondary level with about 200 students in each section particularly in humanity stream.

He urged the Education Minister to upgrade the Government Secondary school Tezu to Higher Secondary at the earliest.

Bidol Tayeng, who was also the student of Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Tezu spoke on the improvement of quality of education. He also assured regarding recruitment of 2000 teachers to fill up the shortage of teachers.

The Minister along with his team also visited IGG College, Tezu, Govt. Higher Secondary school Tezu and inaugurated the fourth intra-sports-meet at Krick & Boury Memorial School, Tezu.

Deputy Commissioner Danish Ashraf highlighted about the educational scenario of the district.

Gram Sabha stresses on four-year village development plan

PALIN, Oct 3: The Special Gram Sabha meetings held at Langdung and Dui villages under Palin circle on the occasion of Swachh Bharat Mission and celebration of 147th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi emphasized the need of finalization of 4-year "My Village My Development Plan" by the Gram Sabha of 4- Radang and 2-Dui Gram Panchayats.

After a threadbare discussion, the resolutions were passed for improvement of health and sanitation and selection of schemes under four-year plan on priority basis.

Earlier, Likha Kiran Kabak, Deputy Director of SIRD highlighted the situation analysis report of the villages and spoke on the feasibility of important schemes for development of the villages. Tamar Baki, TA, was also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Rozer Divas under the aegis of DRDA, Kra Daadi was celebrated at Landung village. Speaking on the occasion, DRDA PD S. Lowang urged the people to take full benefit of various government schemes like MGNREGA, PMAY etc. Rido Meena, ZPC, Kra Daadi also spoke on the occasion.

ArSRLM executive body meeting held

ITANAGAR, Oct 3: The 3rd meeting of Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ArSRLM) was conducted in the Chief Secretary's conference hall at New Secretariat Building here on Monday.

Kavita Maria, State Anchor Person, NMMU gave an overview of the contours of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihoods Mission, while Dr. Rakesh Srivastava, Chief Operating Officer (Programme) ArSRLM explained in details about the progress of ArSRLM, especially the progress undertaken in current financial year. N. Breeze Doye, SMM Sr. (Admin and HR) ArSRLM highlighted the proposed preparatory activities under DDU GKY programme.

An overview on Mahila Kisan Sashaktikaran Pariyojana(MKSP) was presented by the State Anchor Person, NMMU, wherein it was clarified that projects are approved under AAP mode and each State would be required to meet a specified criteria for considering MKSP projects in context of Arunachal Pradesh.

It was also clarified during the meeting that the phased wise approach for implementation of programme is based on the recommended strategy of NRLM where activities are carried out in a highly systematic manner. The State Mission Management Unit as well as the National Mission Management Unit ensures that continuous handholding support is provided to women groups for at least 6 - 8 years. Only women based groups are promoted under DAY - NRLM. The meeting also discussed in length on various aspects related to skill development and consequent placement of skilled personnel in different jobs.

Participating in the meeting, Assistant Director Rural Skills Division, MoRD, Ng. Yiramayi gave an overview of overall contours of the DDU GKY programme and emphasized on the need for long duration skilling.

After going through the suggestions of the members present, Chief Secretary in-charge Hage Khoda, who presided over the meeting, emphasized the need for customization of programme guidelines for ensuring greater percolation of benefits in context of state specific requirements.

RD and PR Commissioner Indra Mallo also spoke on the occasion.

Among others, Tabin Siga, Chief Executive Officer cum State Mission Director ArSRLM, all members cum heads of all the line departments and officials of NABARD Regional Office Itanagar were also present.

Police recovers stolen vehicle

ITANAGAR, Oct 03: Chongkham Police have recovered a stolen Bolero pick up van within 18 hours.

According to Chongkham Police Station OC Inspector Thomas Pertin, the car lifters entered the house of one Chow Sutasana Mein of Chongkham-III Village on the night of September 29 and had stolen his new Bolero Pick Up van (No. A/F). The car thieves fled with the stolen car towards Namsai.

On being informed, a joint team of police led by Inspector Pertin chased the car lifters along with OC PS Diyun and OC SB Namsai and conducted search operation at Kachu to Pisi village area and Diyun of Changlang district and succeeded to recover the stolen vehicle after 18 hours of search operation.

"Two miscreants on seeing the police jumped out of the stolen vehicle and escaped in the dark," Pertin informed.

The whole operation was closely supervised by Namsai SP CK Mein. Efforts are on to nab the culprit, Pertin said adding that this was the first 4-wheeler stealing case at Chongkham.

Pertin suggested public of Chongkham to keep their vehicles in safe custody and call police immediately in such kind of cases for assistance.

Strategies chalked out to make Ziro-I open defecation free

ITANAGAR, Oct 03: Strategies have been chalked out to make and declare Ziro-I Block as Open Defecation Free (ODF) during the current financial year.

While informing this, Executive Engineer, PHE & WS Division, Ziro Kago Habung urged all PRIs members to cooperate with the Department to achieve the target fixed for implementation and construction of Individual Household latrine (IHHL) during 2016-17.

The EE, who chaired the co-ordination meeting of the PHE&WS Department and PRIs of Ziro-I at Dilopoliang on Monday, urged PRIs members to expedite the formation of Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC), where the same has not been formed yet.

The Department has entrusted Keliya Multipurpose Cooperative Society (KMCS) to carry out all types of awareness campaign under IEC component to achieve the open defecation free (ODF) status.

Nodal Officer of SBM (G) Hage Ankha briefed on the role and importance of NGOs in implementing the IEC part.

Later, demonstration on testing of water through Field Test Kit (FTK) was demonstrated to the PRIs by the laboratory assistant. FTKs were also distributed to all the PRIs members for testing of water by themselves and submission of the report to the Department.

The meeting was attended by Zilla Parishad Chairperson (ZPC) of Lower Subansiri District Hage Kobing along with all the ZPMs and ACP of Ziro-I Blocks, Keliya Multipurpose Co-operative Society (KMCS) an NGOs of Ziro I block and PHE & WS officers and official.

Binga Ete Memorial Football Tournament

AALO, Oct 03: The stage is set for the first Binga Ete Memorial Football Tournament (BEMFT), 2016, which will kick-start at Aalo general ground from October 7.

The tournament being organized by West Siang district sports association (DSA) is being sponsored by Science & Technology secretary, Gaken Ete, in memory of his father.

Seventeen teams from across the district will slug it out for glory.

We are making all efforts to make the event a grand success, said DSA secretary Karik Lollen.

He expressed hope that the teams would play competitive football over the next twenty days, so that the profile of the tournament is further raised. The winner will take home a cash prize of Rs 1.25 lakhs and a trophy while the runner-up purse is Rs 75,000, informed Lollen.

He said there are also individual prizes of Rs 10,000 each for player of the tournament and highest scorer.

The fixture for the prestigious tournament has been drawn and the teams have been divided into four pools.

Last year's DSA champion Jummi Combats FC Bene has been pitted against FC Tadin, Kugi Ao FC, Puakgumin FC and strong contender Kabu FC in pool A.

Gotu TK Darka, FC DPGC Kamki, Sipu FC and Memo United FC are placed in pool B.

Newcomers NEFTU FC, Kombo FC, SFS FC and Sora Bros FC are clubbed together in pool C while pool D comprises of MAE FC, Darka FC, Pakam FC and Ngomdir PH FC.

The inaugural match between Jummi Combats FC Bene against Tadin FC on Friday will set the tone for the tournament.

West Siang deputy commissioner Gamli Padu will attend the opening ceremony of the tournament.

The two semifinals would be held on October 24 and 25 while the final will be held on October 27.

Namsai Open Grand Prix Men’s Double Badminton

Meuseng- Pingpasara wins title

NAMSAI, Oct 3: The pair of Chow Pingpasara Mantaw and Chow Meuseng Mancheykhun won the Namsai Open Grand Prix Men’s Double Badminton (Open Category) title here on Monday.

The pair of Meuseng and Pingpasara beat the duo of Chow Kiyon Manpang and Rajiv Rai in the final which was witnessed by Parliamentary Secretary Planning Chow Zingnu Namchoom, DC in-charge B Talukdar, president of Tai Khampti Development Society Chow Siharaja Choutang, ZPC Namsai Chow Kyasing Mounglang, ZPM Namsai Chow Mahajini Choupoo. The tournament was organized by Tai Badminton Club (TBC) in collaboration with Namsai District Badminton Association.

Altogether 21 teams participated in it.

The event concluded with prize distribution ceremony.

Major reshuffle, DGP, DC Sandeep Singh transferred

ITANAGAR, Oct 3: In a major reshuffle, the Centre has transferred 23 IAS and 14 IPS officers of the AGMUT Cadre.

DGP, Arunachal S Nithiyanandam, IPS has been transferred to Delhi.

DC Capital Sandeep Kumar Singh have been transferred to Daman & Diu along with Pooja Jain.

The states have been asked to relieve the officers within Oct 15.

Three IAS officers Ravi Dhawan, Ruchika Katyal and Brij Mohan Mishra have been transferred from Arunachal Pradesh to GNCTD. Similarly, two IAS officers Ravi Jha and Isha Khosla have been transferred from Arunachal Pradesh to Goa.

Five IAS officers Nitika Pawar, Azimul Haque, SK Jain, Madhu Rani Teotia and GS Meena have been transferred from GNCTD to Arunachal Pradesh.

IPS officer Anto Alphonse has been transferred from Itanagar to Delhi while Sandeep Goel, has been transferred from Delhi to Arunachal Pradesh. IAS officer Belatee Pertin has been transferred from Arunachal Pradesh to Mizoram.

Moying-Migging-Tuting road restored for traffic

YINGKIONG, Oct 03: The Moying-Migging-Tuting road, which was blocked for nearly two weeks due to massive landslides triggered by heavy rain, has been cleared for traffic on Thursday.

The road witnessed 14 massive land slides between Mosing and Palsi causing extensive damage to it.

At places the road surface has sunk over half the width for about 200-300 mtr length which is generally seen in the aftermath of earth quake.

105 RCC of Project Brahmank pressed into service 8 earth movers/excavators to clear the landslides along with 150 (approx) laboures on Sunday itself.

However, boulder shooting triggered by incessant rain hampered the road restoration work for two days.

The road was opened for light vehicles on Wednesday and for heavy vehicles on Thursday noon as the weather cleared.

"This is the first time in this season that the road remained closed overnight despite best efforts by GREF personnel of 105 RCC due to incessant rainfall/cloudburst and shooting boulders" informed Commander of 761 BRTF SK Pradhan.

He further informed that all the damages at slide locations would be repaired within this working season.

He acknowledged the cooperation of Upper Siang district administration and Project Director, ALG (Tuting) during slide clearance operation.

Cleanliness drive conducted

ITANAGAR, Oct 3: As part of the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan, the volunteers of Capital Youth Organization (CYO) conducted a cleanliness drive from Akashdeep to RK Mission Hospital on Oct 2 last.

The drive was conducted jointly by the CYO and Itanagar Market Association. The organization has further appealed all to keep the Capital Complex clean for a better future.

Deptts. urged to check infestation in tea gardens

ITANAGAR, Oct 3: Informing that the sudden attack of defoliating insects since the past four months in and around Jairampur pose a serious threat to the tea gardens of the area, the RK Mossang Memorial Society, a Jairampur-based NGO has appealed to both the district agriculture and horticulture officers of Changlang district to initiate early steps to prevent its further spread.

In its release on Monday, the Society said that the Tea Board, India, Itanagar branch has also been informed about the threat. However, if the threat is not addressed soon, it will cause extensive damage to the tea gardens as already large areas of tea gardens and paddy fields in Assam are completely destroyed, it claimed.

Ensure cent percent coverage under BME: DC

SEPPA, Oct 3: East Kameng DC, Rajeev Takuk has called upon the concern officials to ensure cent percent coverage of Biometric Enrolment for AADHAAR in the district.

Addressing a district-level meeting on Biometric Enrolment for AADHAAR generation convened under his chairmanship here on Monday, the DC further briefed about the designated officials and agencies for the purpose of aadhaar enrolment and about the role and responsibility of respective officials and institutions designated for BME.

DSO (Statistics), C A Loffa in her address, also informed about the status of BME coverage of the district as on date and briefed about the strategy and tentative plan for cent per cent coverage of left out population of the district under BME. While elaborating on the schedules for training of operators, placement of operators in respective circles, review of progress of BME, completion of task at circles/villages, mop-up day and final uploading of BME data by Dec 31 next, she further informed about the status and modality for placement of men and machinery in all circle headquarters and new enrolment centers.

Bameng ADC, T Messar, DDSE, K Rangmo, PD, K Nyodu, deputy director (ICDS), I Baishya, DF&CSO, Chuku J, CO, Takam N, BDOs and other officials were present in the meeting.

Hundreds benefit from free health camps

ITANAGAR, Oct 3: Hundreds of patients benefitted from a series of free eye and health camps being conducted by the Indian Medical Association (IMA-AP) Arunachal unit in collaboration with Young Mission Adventure Club, Lions Club Aalo, RKM hospital Itanagar and Gumin Hoin Education Foundation at Yomcha and Nikte in Aalo respectively from Sep 30 to Oct 1 last.

During the health camps, free hearing aid, walking sticks and wheelchair were distributed to needy patients while, free hepatitis B screening and other basic test were done. 48 eye patient from the camp were operated on by a team of eye surgeons led by Dr.Lobsang Tsetim Eye specialist from RKMH at Aalo general hospital.

The IMA-AP also organized a continuing medical education programme (CME) in Aalo wherein Dr.Tojum Pakam presented a paper on management of hypertension while, Dr. Yam Narang spoke on Management of 3rd stage labour. All doctors from district including, doctors from the Indian Army participated in the programme.

Entrepreneurship-cum-skill development prog. begins

ITANAGAR, Oct 3: A six week-long entrepreneurship-cum-skill development programme (ESDP) organized by Branch MSME Development Institute, M/O MSME, GoI, Itanagar began at Multi Discipline Training Centre, Doimukh here recently.

In his inaugural address, Deputy Director of Khaddi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC), GoI, Atuba Lusang emphasized the need for generating self employment in the state and encouraged the entrepreneurs to go for self employment after completion of the course. He also briefed about various KVIC schemes which would help the local youths become self employed.

Assistant Director (I/C),Br. MSME-DI, Itanagar, GS Khandelwal and Assistant Director (Elect) Br. MSME-DI, Itanagar, C Minj also spoke on the occasion.

DLMC meeting held at Khonsa

ITANAGAR, Oct 3: The Tirap district level monitoring committee meeting was held on Monday in the DC's conference hall. Meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Ravi Jha and attended by ADC, Deomali, EAC Lazu, CO, Dadam, DPO and the representatives of work departments. The executive engineers and representatives of PWD, Power, WRD, PHED, RWD, DRDA, Urban Development, CD-Blocks of Lazu and Dadam highlighted their physical achievements pertaining to their respective departments.

They also threw light about ongoing projects and schemes implemented under SPA, BADP, NLCPR, RIDF, MsDP, SADA, NEC, PM Package, MLALADs, MPLADs etc. While summing up the meeting, DC who is also the Chairman of the DLMC asked the PWD to resume the CC roads and pavement work at the earliest.

He also asked PWD to provide all the required infrastructures like water supply, power supply and improve the approach road to the govt. Polytechnic Institute at Khonsa.

DC urged the departments to utilize the short working season beginning from the month of October gainfully adding that no work could be executed during the rainy months. He asked the departments to maintain proper work coordination. Jha expressed his displeasure over the absence of some officers from the meeting.

Trainer's training begins

ITANAGAR, Oct 3: A three day Trainer's Training (TOT) began at Rajiv Gandhi (Central) University on Monday. It is being organized by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS Zonal Office) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport (MoYAS) in collaboration with RGU NSS Unit. The participants include NYKS officials, ex- National Youth Volunteers, youth leaders, youth clubs members of various districts of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, NSS volunteers from the University.

The inaugural function was graced by Vice Chancellor RGU Prof. Tamo Mibang. DYC Zonal Director (i/c) of Meghalaya Dr. Salam D Singh took the first session on "Introduction of MoYAS, NYKS, NYV scheme, aim & objective and programmes of NYKS." In the second session Assistant Professor Department of Social Work, RGU John G Gangmei made a presentation on "Life Skills and Personality Development".

The programme aims to train a trainer for empowering the emerging leaders in social sectors thereby involving youth clubs, NSS volunteers and National Youth Volunteers (NYV) in their respected districts of Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya.

Awareness Prog on Legal Metrology Act

AALO, Oct 03: The Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs (LMCA) conducted an awareness programme on Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and Arunachal Pradesh Legal Metrology Act.2011 for the business community of Aalo on Sunday.

Assistant Controller of LM&CA, Aalo, JK Lobom while explaining about various provisions/ rules under Legal Metrology Acts advised the business community to use standard and verified weights and measures only as use of un-verified as well as non-standards weights and measures will invite penalties up to Rs.25,000 under relevant sections of the Law.

While highlighting about Packaged Commodity Rules, Lobom said that it is a mandatory in case of packaged commodity to declare the date of manufacture, net weight, expiry date, manufacturers' name etc. on the label of the commodity.

Practical demonstration was conducted by Lobom on standardization certificate, Agmarks, ISI Marks, know your LPG Cylinder, diesel and petrol dispensing pumps, package commodities items and how weights and measures are manipulation etc.

Release fund for payment: AAPLU

ITANAGAR, Oct 3: The All Arunachal Pradesh Labour Union (AAPLU) has sought release of fund for payment of staff salary and labour wages in the department of Women and Child development claiming that the payments have not been made for the last seven months in the department.

In its representation submitted to the chief minister, it further informed that the labourers in the department have not received their bonus since 2014.

‘Appoint unemployed youths’

ITANAGAR, Oct 3: Claiming that some retired employees are still on the job in the office of wildlife and biodiversity, the All Arunachal Pradesh Anti-Corruption Students' Union (AAPACSU) has called for their termination and demanded that unemployed youths of the state be appointed in their place. It has submitted a memorandum to the PCCF in this regard.

Fair price shops to discontinue distribution

ITANAGAR, Oct 3: Disappointed that the state government has turned a blind eye to its demand of commission and dealers' margin, the Arunachal Pradesh Fair Price Shop Dealers' Welfare Association has decided to discontinue distribution of PHH and AAY rice from October.

Earlier the association had written to the chief secretary seeking fulfillment of its demand by September 30 and warned of discontinuing with the distribution.

In its representation to the CS, the association further informed that distribution will not be made until the commission and margin is released.

Reinstatement of Pakke-Kessang PWD Division sought

ITANAGAR, Oct 3: The 12th Pakke Kessang Anti-Corruption Association (12thPKACA) has demanded reinstatement of Pakke-Kessang PWD Division to Sagalee circle from Yachuli circle. The division was recently placed under Yachuli circle on temporary basis.

The association has written to the chief minister saying that the move has created chaos and confusion among the general public of 12th Pakke Kessang Assembly constituency as well as the departmental staff.

It alleged that the shift is arbitrary, biased and is being done with malafide intention to sabotage the developmental activities of the constituency.

16-member Wushu team for Sub-Jr National C'Ship

ITANAGAR, Oct 03: A 16-member Wushu team comprising five boys and 11 girls will represent Arunachal Pradesh in the 16th Sub-Junior National Wushu Championship to be held at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, from October 7 to 12.

The team will be led by Wushu Coach of Directorate of Sports M. Premchandra, and Techi Juna as Team coach Manager.

Strengthen internal security

Just days after India conducted surgical strike against terrorists inside Pakistan occupied Kashmir, the terrorist attacked army base at Baramulla on Sunday night. One BSF jawan was martyred while another injured after terrorists carried out an attack on BSF and adjoining army camps. India had anticipated such response from Pakistan and accordingly government took all the necessary steps.

But despite claim of heightened security readiness, the militants managed to escape from the encounter site. Because of this army called off the combing operation at Baramullah. This is really strange and exposes the tall claims of the government. How can security forces allow militants to escape from the encounter site? There have been lapses and proper enquiry should be held to find out the cause for such kind of lapse. India will have to strengthen the internal security system. Terrorists will continue to try cause as much damage as possible and it can be defeated only by strengthening the internal security. India seriously needs to pull up the socks. Also the report of national security advisors of India and Pakistan developing contact to defuse the tension is a good step. The two countries should not give up the possibility of engaging in dialogue. As per the report, National Security Advisors of India and Pakistan have spoken over the phone and agreed to reduce tensions on the Line of Control. Hopefully this will lead to de-escalation of tension and pave the way for peace process to resume.
